Pre–operative patient Information -Often performed in conjunction with endoscopic sinus surgery, since the polyps usually come from the sinuses around the nose.
A day case operation under local anaesthetic (no injections, just small pieces of gauze soaked in local anaesthetic placed into the nose before treatment). This procedure may also be performed under a short general anaesthetic, particularly if endoscopic sinus surgery is also being performed.
Not painful after surgery, light sponge packs may be inserted for 2-4 hours post op. Patients are usually kept on the ward for between 2 and 6 hours after treatment, after which time they can go home. Patients usually have a course of steroid tablets to take before and after the operation.
